Adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, another adverb or even a whole sentence. It typically expresses manner, place, time, frequency, degree, level of certainty, etc., answering questions such as how, in what way, when, where, to what extent. 

Classification of Adverb:

There are Five types of Adverb:

1. Adverbs of frequency

2. Adverbs of manner

3.Adverbs of time

4.Adverbs of place

5.Adverbs of degree

1. Adverbs of frequency

It indicates the general frequency of an action.

Example: Always, Sometimes, Often, Usually etc.

  • He usually goes to school by bus.
  • She normally eats two meals a day.

2. Adverbs of manner

It indicates the process of an action.

Example: Happily, Slowly, Quickly, Carefully, Hard, Well etc.

  • He is writing fast.
  • You are speaking loudly.

3. Adverbs of time

It indicates the specific moment of the action.

Example: Tomorrow, Yesterday, Today, Last night etc.

  • I will come tomorrow.
  • He met me last night.

4. Adverbs of place

It indicates the place of the action.

Example: Here, There, Up, Down, Out etc.

  • Come here.
  • We are waiting there.

5. Adverbs of degree

It indicates the intensity of something. It is placed before the adjectives or other adverb.

Example: Very, Really, Totally, Barely, Completely, So, Too, Almost etc.

  • She is a very beautiful girl.
  • He is almost always fast .

Adverb enhances the meaning of sentences by adding detail, specifying time or place, expressing frequency or degree, and indicating certainty or probability. It also contributes to the clarity and precision of communication in both spoken and written language.
